Self-Awareness

It has become quite apparent to me lately that we literally spend our whole lives trying to figure out who we are and our place in the world. What, you may ask, brought about this seemingly obvious revelation? Why the little princess of course. As she is the newest to life in our house, I see this with her every day. She is always trying to figure things and people out. Even the simplest of things-grabbing her feet, or getting her hands into her mouth- are quite exciting to her. It is a joy to watch, until it is feeding time. My little princess- the one who was once a very efficient eater- is seemingly whacked over the head with her self-awareness when it comes time eat! She will eat for a little bit, then stop and look around, or smile at me, or stick her fingers in her mouth. After a bit she goes back to eating and the whole cycle repeats itself until she gets drowsy. While I know that this means she is developing appropriately, and she is learning and becoming more interactive, I sometimes long for the blissfully ignorant newborn days, especially when this happens in the middle of the night. But, at the same time, I think it is terribly cute!

As for the little man in my life... well, he is learning to sing the ABCs. Though he has been able to recite the whole alphabet for months, he was uninterested in the song until recently, despite the fact I sung it multiple times daily. It is so fun to listen to him sing. So far, the ending of the song according to him is as follows: "Now know my ABCs. Now sing with me!" Adorable!!!

My sweet babies are growing up way too fast!
